Above is a link to a lecture by Elyn Saks, USC professor and  author of The Center Cannot Hold, which describes her struggle against her schizophrenia. Like all schizophrenics, she is not cured, but she has developed strategies that help her manage her illness, along with the medications (she is on Zyprexa, which unfortunately hasn’t worked for Jani). However, Saks’s story gives me hope that one day Jani will be able to tell her own story.

Hope you all had a good 4th of July weekend. Jani seems to be improving on the Clozaril. It is too early to tell if this will lead to a longer period of stability for her but so far so good. Yesterday, we brought 4th of July cupcakes for everybody on the unit and all in all had a pretty good day visiting Jani.
